VNIIA created a wide range of neutron generators for research applications, in particular fusion research, dynamic neutron radiography, activation analysis, X-ray tomography and photolithography, neutron radiography and non-destructive test, material science, calibration of nuclear particle detectors.
Neutron generators for research applications
A major achievement, confirming the international recognition of the neutron generators quality was the first time ever application of a neutron generator in the "Dynamic albedo for neutrons" (DAN) device by the Russian Academy of Science (RAS) Space Research Institute (SRI) for the NASA Mars research laboratory.
ING-10K neutron generator developed and manufactured by VNIIA has been successfully working on Mars within the US "Curiosity" Mars Rover for more than four years, having exceeded the warranty lifetime by several times. During this period, DAN device has transmitted unique data on water content on the Mars surface.
